DES MOINES – They are called “snow fighters” and Iowa needs lots more of them, the Iowa Department of Transportation says.

Posting a photo to social media showing the front view of a snow plow driver working through a lonely rural road, the Iowa DOT asked “Does this look like fun to you?”

The agency told KCCI TV it needs about 200 more part-time snow drivers after initially seeking 600 earlier this year.

“We’re still looking for part-time seasonal snowfighters in many parts of the state,” the DOT explained.  Its website lists dozens of locations across the state with job openings.  These jobs are temporary employment through April 15, 2016. The job openings can be found here: http://www.iowadot.gov/careers/index.html

Qualified applicants will be required to operate maintenance and snow/ice removal equipment, such as end loaders, single or tandem axel dump trucks that may be equipped with tailgate or hopper spreaders, straight blades or V-plows, snowplow wing blades and underside ice blades. Also, applicants must possess and maintain a Class A or B Commercial Driver’s License (CDL) with an air brake endorsement and will be subject to random drug and alcohol testing.

Compensation ranges from $11.67-16.53/hour, depending on experience.
