Diesel prices in Iowa trending downward

dieselDES MOINES – The price of retail diesel in Iowa dropped $.09 this week, closing at $2.16 per gallon.

Crude Oil Summary
The price of global crude oil fell this week on the West Texas Intermediate (WTI) by $1.65 per barrel over last week, currently priced at $37.27.

Brent crude oil fell $.05, and is currently priced at $37.14.

One year ago WTI crude sold for $57.12 and Brent crude was at $59.07.

Motor Fuels
As of Tuesday, December 22nd, the price of regular unleaded gasoline averaged $1.94 across Iowa according to AAA. This is $.04 lower than last week and down $.26 from one year ago. The national average on Tuesday was $2.01, holding steady at last week’s price.

Retail diesel fuel prices in Iowa were $.09 lower on the Tuesday report with a statewide average of $2.16. One year ago diesel prices averaged $3.09 in Iowa. The current Iowa diesel average is $.14 per gallon lower than the national average of $2.30.

Wholesale ethanol prices were $.09 lower this week, closing at $1.36. The price of Mid-Grade Blend in Iowa (10% ethanol) closed at $2.04 per gallon, up $.05 from last week’s price and $.14 lower than one year ago.

The current Des Moines Terminal/Rack Prices are $1.12 for U87-E10, $1.29 for Unleaded 87 (clear), ULSD#2 is at $1.11, ULSD#1 is at $1.37, and E-70 is priced at $1.42 per gallon.

Heating Fuels
Propane prices fell a penny compared to last week’s price with a statewide average of $.99 per gallon. Home heating oil fell $.05 from last week’s figures, ending with a statewide average of $1.65. Natural Gas prices were $.10 higher at the Henry Hub reporting site and ended the week at $1.75 / MMbtu.
